Yorkville officials are now working to update the city’s Comprehensive Plan after approving multiple developments that did not align with the existing 2016 plan.

The proposed amendment, PZC 2026-01, would revise the city’s future land use map to reflect rezonings and projects approved in 2025 and 2026, effectively bringing the plan in line with decisions already made. The update also adds a 2022 project that had previously been left out of earlier revisions.

City staff describe the changes as administrative, but the move highlights a growing disconnect between Yorkville’s long-term planning document and recent development approvals.

The update comes as ongoing and increasingly contentious debate over large scale data center developments continue across Yorkville. Multiple projects have been approved or are under consideration, with thousands of acres now tied to potential data center use.

A group of local residents and landowners have filed another lawsuit against the City of Yorkville, with concerns over failures in public notification and transparency related to a large scale rezoning effort related to data center developments in the area.

According to court filings in Kendall County Court (Case No. 2026CH000010), the plaintiff, Preserve Our Yorkville & Community LLC, is seeking legal relief including an injunction to halt further action.

The proposal is scheduled to appear before the Economic Development Committee on May 5, 2026, ahead of a public hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission at Yorkville City Hall, 651 Prairie Pointe Drive. That hearing is proposed for June 10, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.

Following the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation, the City Council is expected to take up the amendment at a future meeting. The People will have an opportunity to provide public comment at the upcoming meetings and the hearing.
